Newspoll quarterly breakdowns: April to June

New polling data suggests Labor has held on to big gains it made earlier in the year in Queensland and especially Western Australia.

The Australian has published the regular quarterly aggregation from Newspoll, providing large-sample breakdowns for the mainland states and demographic sub-groups compiled from polling conducted from April through to June. This amounts to a sample of 6049 combined from the last four Newspoll surveys.

The results show little change overall on the previous quarter, with all states recording unchanged two-party results except South Australia. This means a 50-50 result in New South Wales, a swing to Labor of around two points compared with the 2019 election; 53-47 to Labor in Victoria, essentially unchanged; 53-47 to the Coalition in Queensland, a swing to Labor of around 5.5%; 53-47 to Labor in Western Australia, a swing of around 8.5%; and 54-46 to Labor in South Australia, compared with 55-45 in the January-March aggregate and 50.7-49.3 at the 2019 election. The striking fact of this stability is that the surges recorded to Labor last time of five points in Queensland and seven points in Western Australia have stuck.

The demographic breakdowns have been similarly placid, the biggest movements being of three points to the Coalition among the 65+ cohort (to 65-35) and the lower-middle income cohort (to 51-49). There is still no gender gap on two-party preferred, but there is now one on prime ministerial approval, with Morrison’s net rating deteriorating by 12% among women to +15% but by only 5% among men to +21%. Morrison has also held up better in New South Wales, where his net rating is down six to +26%, than in Victoria (down 11 to +6%), Queensland (down 15 to +20%) and Western Australia (down 15 to +22%).

The results also include breakdowns by working status for the first time, which find Labor leading 51-49 lead among those working full time, 54-46 lead among those working part-time and 60-40 among an “other” category that accounts for about 15% of the sample, while the Coalition leads 61-39 among the retired.

  1. Fairfield Showground COVID testing clinic is abuzz with activity, but St Vincent’s Hospital pathology unit SydPath director of operations Greg Granger is concerned about the increasing positive cases.

In the past two days, the clinic has recorded 101 cases of COVID-19. On Saturday, about 1100 cars came though, with almost one in 20 people testing positive for COVID, Mr Granger said.

If this is correct it’s 101 case from one test site in 2 days!

    So, 6 weeks it is.

Very very bad messaging – apart from who knows they absolutely don’t have the virus, this completely ignores that you might catch the virus at work.

  4. Republicans Are Wiping Themselves Out As Delta Variant Surges In Red Areas And GOP

Growing evidence suggests that the Delta variant of COVID 19 is hitting red areas and Republicans who refuse to get vaccinated hardest.

CBS News reported, “The Delta variant now accounts for more than half of the new coronavirus cases in the United States —52%. Almost all of the new cases — 99.7% —are among people who have not been vaccinated…The effort comes as cases are rising in 26 states. Hospitalization rates are up in 17 states — 27% in Florida, almost exclusively among the unvaccinated. ”

States like Florida, Mississippi, Utah, and Kentucky are already being hit hard. All of those states voted for Donald Trump.

  5. At this point they really need to develop a new version of Jobkeeper, called GladysKeeper, to kick in for any city that has a hard lockdown for more than two weeks.

Otherwise the poor will be forced to keep working to survive, and will be blamed for creat new infections when they do.

Morrison is in deep pentecostal shit cos lying is a sin

He has a 12 lane highway escape clause. If he is bullshitting to further ‘god’s work’ then yeee haw , all good he would call it a ‘righteous lie’. The evangelicals managed to be fans of uber liar Trump cos he was ‘helping fulfill prohpesies’.

  7. Cud,

I don’t potentially want to become a eunch, I’ve got quite attached to them.

The Libs have already lost a seat in WA and ALP gained one in Vic so 7 seats needed. So currently government has 76 seats and the ALP 69 with 6 independents.

Now the ALP need 7 to govern in their own right however if they get to 74 they will form government (Wilkie and Brandt will support).

Can pick up 3 in WA, 1 in SA, 1 in Vic for starters without even considering Qld, Tas and NSW.

    I believe sQomo is cooked.

Breaking: Health Minister Martin Foley says a confirmed COVID case from Greater Sydney was infectious while visiting Victoria and South Australia July 8 and 9 for work. The man is a removalist. Exposure sites and close contacts quarantine expected.

  10. Morrison’s brand of religion is known as the prosperity gospel because those who do the “right” thing will be rewarded. That only works when there is a corresponding punishment for those who do the “wrong” thing.

The reality is that the “prosperity preachers” can only have influence by telling people that those who obey their orders will be rewarded and those who disobey their orders will be punished. It’s a very effective way of controlling vulnerable people by making those who suffer adversity believe it is their own fault.

This aligns perfectly with the message that it’s your own fault if you contact Covid. No responsibility on Morrison to roll out vaccines effectively, ensure aged care safety or provide proper quarantine facilities.

  11. One wonders why pharmacies weren’t at the front of the queue for distribution of vaccines – worked a dream in the US, and most have always got their flu shots at chemists.

Ok, some early uncertainty about safety etc may have pushed everyone eligible into GPS, but seriously.

The next Federal Government must have a Royal Commission into the botched vaccine rollout..

  12. So I phoned the local GP practice (big place, 10 doctors, p,us specialist centre), rather than rely on just the web site.

Waited 10 minutes to speak to someone, but that’s normal up here.

    So this was the conversation:

ME: “Hi. I figured out I get to six weeks from my first injection next Tuesday, so I thought I’d book an appoint—–”

RECEPTIONIST: “Sir, we are not doing any second injections before 12 weeks. 12 weeks achieves the maximum effectiveness.”

ME: “But I’ve just heard the Prime Minister and the Prem—”

RECEPTIONIST: “Sir, we are not doing any second injections before 12 weeks.”

ME: “Are there any other places that are offer—-”

    RECEPTIONIST: “I don’t know, sir.”

    ME: “So— ”

RECEPTIONIST: “Sir, we are not doing any second injections before 12 weeks. Is there anything else I can help you with?”

ME: “My grandson is 24 and—-”

RECEPTIONIST: “SIR… We are are not doing ANYTHING but patients over 60 and essential services personnel. Is your grandson in that category?”

    ME: “No but—”

RECEPTIONIST: “Can I help you with anything else, sir?”

ME: “So what I’ve just heard the Prem—-”

RECEPTIONIST: [Hangs up in my ear]

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the NSW Gold Standard Health Service, Mid-North Coast-style.

  13. Here’s the graph of new NSW local cases over the past month:

That line’s not going to turn around and drop back any time soon. The number of new cases has increased by about 50% yesterday and today.

The dotted line is the seven-day moving average.

Controversial funding changes mean nursing homes are missing out on billions of dollars in taxpayer support, sparking concerns the sector is being “neglected”.

GP receptionists annoy me too. But of late I have given them a lot more leeway – my smile is no longer laced with anything but sympathy.

  16. Deaths also trending. Now up to the equivalent of 5,000 deaths per year if population adjusted for Australia. This will get worse.

Deaths lag detected infections by about 1 month. Deaths from the latest spike would only just be starting to wash through in the UK. Get worse it definitely will.

There is a significant case in front of the Fair Work Commission where aged care workers are asking for a 25% wage rise. The royal Commission recommended the sector be given a meaningful wage rise.
IN the event of the FWC granting a decent wage rise the federal government will have to respond with a commensurate increase in funding. If they are true to form such an increase will not cover the additional operating cost, further exacerbating the situation you referred to. To demonstrate how aged care operators will feel this, in our case the wages to income ratio is in the order of 85%.

As I asked earlier it it ok for Physiotherapy clinic to be open in Greater Sydney because I believe I saw one being open?

  20. Everyone keeps thinking sQomo is a great strategist. He isn’t. Short term, a few months, he may be great but he doesn’t see a long term view. He got away with it in May 2019 due to the ALPs woeful campaign and the fact he was only PM for 8 months. He has to own every single fuckup the past 2 years, that he can’t escape from.

  21. The disconnect between the hype about “Just going to get vaccinated”, “make a booking”, “six weeks is fine”, happy TV clips of masked punters queued up outside of Vaccination Hubs etc. and Reality is wider than the Kangaroo Valley.

We are being scammed. It’s the medical version of a Ponzi scheme: we invest our co-operation and trust, but we only get happy news and no real action in return

In the meantime, 169 Year 12s from a GPS school turn up in a bus and drive off inoculated and that is classed as just “a mistake” for which no-one is accountable. There are multiple stories around of a Black Market in vaccinations that smarties and spivs are accessing.

So what does the SMH’s Ace Investigative Reporter, Kate McClymont , write up today? A year-old phoney invoice scandal at the Marconi Club (I’m not providing a link).

.my smile is no longer laced with anything but sympathy.

A Dr they had on RN this morning said his receptionists have been more stressed than he is over the last couple of weeks. They are getting flooded with calls from people after vaccine injections and they do not have anywhere near enough vaccines to meet the demand.
Also he mentioned that a few weeks back he offered a number of his elderly patients the AZ vaccine. They said no. A great many of them have now changed their minds .

Yep, that says you must not go to work.

You test negative, how can you say absolutely you haven’t been exposed to the virus since that time.

At my school, we get tested at least once a month, which is a nice reassurance, but all the protocols are still in place because you can never be subsequently sure of the situation.

    Socrates

The question is, will the fact that Morrison lied about more doses finally filter into the shallow end of the media?

Where they happily swim in their own (and everyone elses) urine? Nah. In fact, they lap up the floaters rather than accept they are in a cesspit.

  26. Berejikilian doing a Daniel Andrews style presser?

Damn. I asked and it ends. No questions left from the journalists.

  27. This guy asks again about why we can get our own vaccine, and Gladys goes all coy, hinting she might have tried something, somewhere, with someone, hello Kirribilli House, no stone unturned, no turn unstoned, and all that. Smug grin.

I occasionally get into the whole babyboomer generation debates. I am trying really hard to not go too rabid about younger people offering themselves to AZ, ostensibly (and more often genuinely) to help save older people, while older people, who are supposed to generally have far lower risk of side effects of AZ, refuse the vaccine.
