Newspoll quarterly breakdowns: April to June

New polling data suggests Labor has held on to big gains it made earlier in the year in Queensland and especially Western Australia.

The Australian has published the regular quarterly aggregation from Newspoll, providing large-sample breakdowns for the mainland states and demographic sub-groups compiled from polling conducted from April through to June. This amounts to a sample of 6049 combined from the last four Newspoll surveys.

The results show little change overall on the previous quarter, with all states recording unchanged two-party results except South Australia. This means a 50-50 result in New South Wales, a swing to Labor of around two points compared with the 2019 election; 53-47 to Labor in Victoria, essentially unchanged; 53-47 to the Coalition in Queensland, a swing to Labor of around 5.5%; 53-47 to Labor in Western Australia, a swing of around 8.5%; and 54-46 to Labor in South Australia, compared with 55-45 in the January-March aggregate and 50.7-49.3 at the 2019 election. The striking fact of this stability is that the surges recorded to Labor last time of five points in Queensland and seven points in Western Australia have stuck.

The demographic breakdowns have been similarly placid, the biggest movements being of three points to the Coalition among the 65+ cohort (to 65-35) and the lower-middle income cohort (to 51-49). There is still no gender gap on two-party preferred, but there is now one on prime ministerial approval, with Morrison’s net rating deteriorating by 12% among women to +15% but by only 5% among men to +21%. Morrison has also held up better in New South Wales, where his net rating is down six to +26%, than in Victoria (down 11 to +6%), Queensland (down 15 to +20%) and Western Australia (down 15 to +22%).

The results also include breakdowns by working status for the first time, which find Labor leading 51-49 lead among those working full time, 54-46 lead among those working part-time and 60-40 among an “other” category that accounts for about 15% of the sample, while the Coalition leads 61-39 among the retired.

Thats its, well done that man, exactly the quote i was thinking of.

Christopher Dale Flannery thats the import and well portrayed in underbelly.

  2. Only a malevolent thinker would construe Bill Shorten attempting to improve Labor’s chances at the federal election, in any way possible, as some sort of Machiavellian scheme to wrest the Prime Ministership from the first Labor PM in almost 10 years. 🙄

  3. = modelling =
Residents in Sydney, the NSW Central Coast, Blue Mountains and Wollongong today received confirmation their lockdown would be extended to at least 30 July.

But our modelling suggests it may take until the end of the year to get case numbers close to zero, unless more stringent measures are introduced.

  4. Frankly the parade of ALP frontbenchers that fawn over Jones, Bolt et al make me ill.

They get talked over, used as a punching bag, and occasionally tolerated like tonight’s display.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg attended the same AFL match as two newly identified positive COVID-19 cases on Saturday.

In a tweet sent out on Saturday afternoon with Blues legend Chris Judd, Mr Frydenberg said he was “looking forward to this afternoon’s game at the ’G”.

Mr Frydenberg’s office said the Treasurer was not in the members area and did not enter the tier-2 exposure site.

  8. The French getting tough with the vaccine passport…

‘ The flood of bookings followed an announcement from President Emmanuel Macron that proof of vaccination would be required to access non-essential services, like restaurants and tourist attractions.

On Monday alone, the medical appointment-booking website Doctolib saw 926,000 new bookings for a first dose of the vaccine, “an absolute record,” per a tweet.

According to data from the French health ministry, 40.6% of the population are fully vaccinated, a further 9.5% are between the first and second doses.

In his address on Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron announced a restrictions to control the rise of the Delta variant, which including the requirement of full vaccination for a range of activities, starting in August.

They include bars, restaurants but also trains and domestic flights.

All health workers are also be required to be vaccinated from September 15.’

  9. Yeah … nah …

I’m sorry, I don’t care what your politics are, some things are just so absurd they have to be called out as ridiculous nonsense of the highest order …

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-14/wa-green-energy-hub-hydrogen-sustainable-power/100292878

A giant green energy project on Western Australia’s south coast that dwarfs the world’s largest hybrid energy operation will have the capacity to produce the equivalent of enough power for the entire country, says one of the nation’s leading scientists and sustainability experts.

That the ABC would even publish this claptrap is utterly inexcusable 🙁

  10. Compare this with Wally Wallpaper and GladysGasbag’s mamby pamby approach… mind you, he has the vaccine supply..

‘Macron explained that the government was striving to achieve a 100 percent vaccination rate across the country.

Vaccination will become mandatory for all health workers. Macron urged them to be inoculated by September 15, after which they could face potential sanctions or fines. Vaccination is a “matter of individual responsibility […] but also a matter of our freedom”, the president added.

France’s health minister Olivier Véran said that non-vaccinated health workers won’t receive a salary nor be allowed to work after September 15.

He announced that a vaccination campaign for high school, secondary school and primary school students will begin when school starts again in September.

PCR tests will no longer be free of charge from the autumn, unless they are obtained with a prescription, Macron said. It is hoped the measure will drive up vaccination rates by encouraging people to get the vaccine rather than just repeated Covid-19 tests.

“This summer will be a summer of economic recovery,” he stated, adding that the ‘health passport’ – a QR code or certificate proving that the holder has a negative Covid-19 test, is fully vaccinated or recently recovered from Covid-19 – will be required throughout different establishments in France from August, including bars, restaurants, cafés and shopping centres.

Soon after the president’s address, France’s online health portal Doctolib.fr crashed because of too many people trying to book vaccination appointments.

  11. I hadn’t even thought of this as a way of avoiding vaccination:

  14. Successful use of medical maggots to treat necrotizing fasciitis of the neck:
    https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/hed.20092

Background: The use of maggots to digest necrotic tissue as a form of wound debridement has a long history in medicine. Necrotizing fasciitis of the neck has a high mortality rate despite aggressive surgical and medical intervention. The use of maggots in this disease has been reported only once before.

Methods: We report the case of a 73-year-old woman, who underwent neck dissection and had necrotizing fasciitis of the neck develop shortly after. After initial surgical wound debridement, we used maggots as a biosurgical method for further debridement. A net containing 100 maggots (Biobag; BioMonde, Germany) was used.

Results: Daily wound dressing showed rapid improvement of the wound; 4 days after beginning treatment, the wound was free of necroses.

Conclusion: In this case, we could avoid repeated surgical wound debridement with the use of sterile maggots. The frequently rapid progression of necrotizing fasciitis could be well controlled.

  15. Much better play by the Maroons tonight, narrowly defeating the Blues (20:18), a team I’ve followed since 1908, Mitchell narrowly missing a penalty 2 minutes from full time – his attempt having the direction but not the legs. But it was a dead rubber so how do you motivate a team that’s already won the series? Not even the great Fittler can work miracles. Can’t wait for the test decider between the Wallabies v Les Bleus on Sat.

“ What do leeches do? Only suck up blood from haematomas and bruises?”
Leeches only attach to viable tissue and are used to reduce venous congestion, especially after microsurgery when the vein isn’t working.

  19. Necrotizing fasciitis…

I am absolutely fastidious with even minor wounds, cleaning them with salty water, then applying Betadine ointment, plus a sterile bandage, with regular re-applications twice a day until healing commences.

I had a friend once who cut his hand open on a gatepost. He dressed the wound but, only after finishing the bandaging, saw another part of the wound he’d missed first time. He let it go, as it was a very minor puncture, containing a splinter (which he removed).

A week or so later he lost his arm below the elbow: necrotizing fasciitis.

Nasty business. Focuses the mind, witnessing it take an otherwise healthy person down. Fast.

  20. Mavis,

Fittler was an excellent player but is a horrible coach. It takes a special skill to get sacked as Easts coach with all the “salary cap” they have. But he did.

Maybe he is injured but Tedesco has turned into garbage. That last Hail Mary play was atrocious. Did he even know there were a dozen other players on his side? Mitchell Moses has no business being in Origin. Ever. NSW really missed Nathan Cleary. By the way, those acne scars of his have a real East German look about them.

For Queensland, St Gill would like a quiet word with Ben Hunt re his Queensland versus his club form, especially with what he is allegedly being paid. And the winning captain, Cherry-Evans, getting booed in Queensland? Who said Gold Coast fans weren’t passionate and don’t have memories. But it was lovely.

The referee? You’re probably old enough to remember this (I’m not) but that performance was Darcy Lawler-ish.

  21. In reasonably healthy people most wounds are self-limiting, as are most maladies. You’d have to be pretty unlucky to develop necrotizing fasciitis – ‘about 0.4 people per 100,000 per year in the US, and about 1 per 100,000 in Western Europe’.

  22. To Someone quoted China Uncensored like a week ago.

    Epoch Times,
    New Tang Dynasty (NTD), and
China Uncensored are mouth-pieces of Falun Gong.

Some new anti-China channels are: China in Focus, The Specifications, China Observer, China Insight, USA Military Powers. Indian WION and Gravitas are non-stop anti-China channels that twisted news or created false news.

Indian WION (which is owned by Zee Media), the owner is a pro-BJP. Cravenly pro-Modi – who is anti-china.

From Wikipedia page of Li Hongzhi:
Performance arts group Shen Yun, the media organization The Epoch Times, and a variety of other organizations such as New Tang Dynasty Television operate as extensions of Falun Gong. These extensions promote Falun Gong and Hongzhi’s teachings, and, in the case of The Epoch Times, promote conspiracy theories and far-right politics in both the United States and Europe. According to a 2020 report by Los Angeles Magazine.

Majority of the anti-China rhetoric comes from these extremist organizations who are against China, everyone else who hates China is doing so without any facts are innocent bystanders.

People like Adrian Zenz, and organizations like ASPI have political and funding interests.

  23. Another let down by NSW Health, private school escapes lockdown:
    https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/private-school-students-escape-lockdown-for-camp-in-regional-nsw-20210714-p589m5.html

Dozens of year 9 students from the Scots College have escaped Sydney’s lockdown to travel to their annual six-month outdoor education campus in the southern highlands, after the trip was approved by NSW Health.

Several busloads of students left the Bellevue Hill campus after being dropped off by their parents on Wednesday, shortly after Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced that stay-at-home orders and remote learning for the rest of Greater Sydney would be extended a further two weeks.

  24. Leeches.
Many years ago I used to collect and sell firewood from a designated coup in our local forest.
After a hard days cutting I would often attract a squadron of leeches – one gets used to them and they are easily removed.
One day, as I packed up my tools I felt a leech on my cheek. When I attempted to remove it
the little bugger leaped higher onto my eye lid. My second attempt’s result was worse. It went under my eye lid and swiftly moved to the back of my eyeball and settled down for dinner.
This caused a pulse of pain I can only describe as similar to an electric shock each time it sucked. I jumped into the vehicle and drove erratically out of the forest to our local Bush Nursing centre. The doctor there – a lovely lass, fresh out of training examined my eye and though not admitting it, was clearly perplexed as to what to do.
She excused her self and left me alone, I presumed she phoned for more experience help and advice. While she was gone, as I sat alone it occurred to me that it will probably find it’s way out once it had filled it’s belly. Sure enough it did! The doctor returned and was quite relieved that nature had run it’s course, prescribed me some anti biotic drops or some such and sent me on my way.
At home the next day some religious types in suits paid me a visit, which was unusual due to our remoteness. I answered the door and asked if I could help. They looked very nervous and left in a quite rush – that was odd I thought. Some time later I happened to see myself in a mirror and my eye was completely red! Looked evil. Not blood shot as such, but the white was completely and evenly bright red.

  25. When I was about 10 I had a boil on my leg which was at bursting stage. I attached a leech to it., can’t remember for how long. Anyhow the leech became considerably engorged and the boil correspondingly reduced. The boil resolved rapidly and I lived to tell the tale.
I can thoroughly recommend leeches as a treatment for that
form of infection given my 100% success rate.

  26. People need to remember Newsltd, Morrison and his cronies do not want states/territories borders to close or lockdowns, they want people to live with the virus

  29. The evidence continues to mount that NSW was too slow to act.

Daily infection rates in Sydney are currently only hovering around the 100 mark but Professor Toole believes the same mistakes are being made.

“Sydney, Bangkok, Phnom Penh are all in the same boat – facing the same variant of the virus and all initially hesitating to go into a full lockdown,” he said.

“Even the best of them, Vietnam is struggling because what they relied on last year, which was rapid testing and tracing and selective lockdowns, just isn’t going to work this time because the virus is spreading too quickly.”

“To fight this variant we have to do it faster and harder – don’t be soft.”

He said the best examples of how to combat Delta are closer to home — the short, sharp lockdowns that quashed recent outbreaks of the variant in Perth, Brisbane and Darwin.

All three cities brought in hard restrictions as soon as just a few cases were detected.
