Moving on from Queensland, up to a point, three items of polling to relate:
• The weekly Roy Morgan poll has Labor’s two-party lead in from 52-48 to 50.5-49.5, from primary votes of Labor 30% (down two), Coalition 37.5% (up one), Greens 14% (up half) and One Nation 5.5% (steady). Based on 2022 election flows, Labor leads 51.5-48.5, in from 53-47. The poll was conducted Monday to Sunday from a sample of 1687.
• Roy Morgan also has a result on the republicanism that points to the brittleness of the support for the concept that polls generally record when the issue is out of the limelight. In the wake of the royal visit, a forced-response SMS poll of 1312 respondents conducted last Tuesday and Wednesday broke 57-43 in favour of retaining the monarchy.
• RedBridge Group has a timely result of federal voting intention from Queensland (hat tip to comments regular Nadia88) that has Labor on 28%, compared with 27.4% at the 2022; the Coalition at 41%, compared with 39.6%; the Greens at 13%, compared with 12.9%; and One Nation at 10%, compared with 7.5%. The poll was conducted several weeks ago, from October 4 to 16, from a substantial sample of 2315, and the full release contains detailed demographic breakdowns. It also finds Anthony Albanese on 34% approval and 53% disapproval; Peter Dutton on 39% and 42%; Steven Miles on 35% and 35%; and David Crisafulli on 40% and 31%.

Great post, and with the favourability ratings i see Albo is in the negative with every age group, even youth.
Nadia – straight back onto the site after a break, with a new poll which you have an uncanny ability to dig up. Even got a mention from the big big boss in intro. Good to see you back.
Meher – you are not a concern troll. Good post from y0u.
The actual spam troll is in full flight today.

Albo thinks it is enough to declare he got upgrades.
It is not.

Good ‘ole Bore, approves of our Labor hero, Albanese sucking up to the union busting Joyce. Wow what a great labour relations record that guy had.’
—————-
N0t at all. My view is that any prime minister should only talk to people like Clem Attlee. Ever. Very improving.
If albo wants to hang around with the likes of ‘union smasher’ Joyce, is anyone surprised his personal ratings are shit.
What game is Albo actually playing. Who provides advice to him? Does he listen to any advice or is his office staffed with sycophants and schoolchildren
So, Vlad.
Pleased with the Qld result for the Greens?
Halved their representation when they were bragging about seven, maybe even ten seats?
Of course Labor got smashed and the whole Overton Window galloped off to the right, but hey!
My view is that the election outcome simply reinforces the need for the Greens to improve the advice that they give to Labor.
Bandt and the Mouth Almighty are already working on it! The Mouth is PROUD of blocking housing.
Bandt reckons that it is blessed for Greens to attack Labor seats but that it is profane for Labor to attack Greens seats.
I agree with Cat and Boerwar that Australia can be a major player in the industries that supply resources like rare earth metals for batteries, EVs etc. We are already the world’s largest exporter of Lithium and are one of the few countries to have recoverable deposits of all the other relevant materials (cobalt, copper, neodymium etc). Mt Weld in WA is one of the world’s largest sources of rare earths. This is a useful explainer.

Meanwhile in USA, a lot of Elon Musks senior executives have been leaving Tesla this year. At least half a dozen have left since April, including those in charge of product development. These are voluntary departures, not sackings.

Some ex journalist has now written a book claiming that Albanese asked for “upgrades” by directly contacting the CEO of a major airline to organise his (Albanese’s) ticketing arrangements.
I’m calling the whole thing convoluted bullshit.
Joyce and/or the ex journalist need to come forward to verify the accuracy of these claims.
Apparently it’s no longer the upgrades that are the problem but Albanese actually rang the CEO and asked for the upgrades.
As the flights are paid for by the Government of the day, that’s not the problem.
It’s the perceptions some wish to have or not have that have become the story.
And aren’t the nuclear opposition loving the kerfuffle.

Player One,
[We need to find out more.]
[You finally bullseyed !]
[Albo thinks it is enough to declare he got upgrades.]
[It is not.]
It’s Joyce’s (the Irish) turn to set the matter straight.
Labor attacks us in a couple of streets in inner Brisbane which then allows the Right wing nut jobbers to claim another state.
Yep, great political tactics from the ALP.
The result speaks for itself.

The lithium market is the pits, ATM. Xi’s $230 billion market distorting subsidies are coming home to roost.

But of course, the epic battle of south brisbane was won by the ALP.

House: one week.
Politicians’ upgrades: two weeks.
Energy revolution: no weeks.

My understanding of the accusation is that some of the requests for upgrades were for private travel or for family.
LVT: “Meher, how far we have come in 30 months. To think Albo is more unpopular than Dutton.”
—————————————————————————–
I’m not tremendously surprised, because I was always more impressed by Dutton’s abilities as a politician than I was by Albo’s. To be clear, I’m not saying I was impressed by Dutton as a Minister: I think he was pretty crap both in Defence and Home Affairs. (Nor was Albo much of a Minister: a real do-nothing. He was in the transport portfolio for a long time – both as minister and shadow minister – but what lasting achievement can he point to beyond a few flight upgrades?)
But Dutton has always come across to me as being a pretty canny sort of politician. His bid for the leadership in 2018 was badly-timed and he was outmanouevred by the moderates, but I think that was as much Cormann’s fault as Dutton’s. Apart from that black mark, I think Dutton has always played things pretty cool. Labor people underestimate him at their own peril.

====================
My advice to the Greens is to give even more advice to Labor and to become even more extreme at the federal level. For example, why stop at the world’s highest company tax? Why not lift the promise to 50%? Why cap the rise of rents at less than the rate of inflation? Why not get rid of rents altogether? Why just block Reserve Bank Reform on the basis a Greens Committee should be setting interest rates? Just get rid of the silly old Reserve Bank! And Waters was onto something as well – raise ALL wages by 40%!
What could possibly go wrong?
And that is an outrage why exactly OC? It was only 22 upgrades to business/first with only some apparently obtained by calling Joyce directly.
What’s surprising is that it was so modest!!
OC: “My understanding of the accusation is that some of the requests for upgrades were for private travel or for family.”
——————————————————————————-
That’s what has been said in the media. Although it used to be the case (I’m not sure that it still is) that MPs were entitled to take family members with them on the occasional official trip.

In the case of private travel you are not required to seek the cheapest option (economy) so buy purchasing economy for a private trip knowing that you will be upgraded I think is a bit of an issue.

BW,
“New panels from China are killing the second hand panel market. ”
Maybe, but just as much, the regulations around STCs are killing the second hand panel market. I.e. you can’t get STCs for second hand panels, so the price (not cost) of new panels becomes competitive, or is even lower than, second hand ones. Even perfectly good second hand ones; and even stockpiles of spare panels that aren’t installed at large solar farms, but were purchased to cover breakages and faults, are being treated as waste because they can’t earn STCs.
It’s aggravating.
I am just shaking my head:
I have decided to take the family to Bali and buy the cheapest seats with Qantas, (hell, let’s not be extravagant I’ll get Jetstar). I then ring the Qantas CEO on his private phone and say “Alan, begorra, just convert these into business class”.
Of course, there is no perception that I owe himself a favour.
Bowen’s comments on this are extremely interesting wrt the reference to going down the “road of destruction”.
The implication we will throw dirt of our own if you don’t stop making this an issue. Presumably if there is counter dirt its going to get flung today or tomorrow latest.
The nothing to see here, everything has been disclosed line isn’t working so something else is required.
Rising wages? That’s a new one for me, Boerwar. Wages are certainly not rising out in punditland. Albanese could murder a child on live TV and Boerwar would blame Bandt or Dutton for it.

Rubbish this is the same Joe Aston that ripped Frydenberg to pieces just before the election but labor people can’t understand the problem because the other side does it too.
